About the

For HER

Network

Our Mission
The For HER Network is an international public education initiative dedicated to reducing the incidence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through long-term, culturally informed communications. Our mission is to encourage parents and communities to protect girls by fostering thoughtful reflection, informed discussion, and enduring positive social change.
Why FGM
Communications Model
Female Genital Mutilation affects millions of girls and women around the world. Its consequences may include lifelong physical complications, psychological trauma, and adverse reproductive health outcomes. Beyond the immediate procedure, FGM can profoundly affect a girl's health, well-being, and quality of life.
The male equivalent of FGM would stay the hand of any man, so horrific is this practice. We believe every girl deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, respected, and free from unnecessary harm.
We believe lasting change begins with understanding. Rather than applying a single message worldwide, we develop communications that are specific to each nation's language, culture, traditions, and media environment.
Our goal is to encourage reflection through respectful storytelling, local partnerships, and sustained public education.
Our initial communications initiative focuses on: - Indonesia - Somalia - Egypt - Sudan - Djibouti - Eritrea - The Gambia - Nigeria - Guinea - Chad - Mauritania - Mali - Sierra Leone - Ethiopia - Burkina Faso Each country program is developed independently using locally appropriate communications strategies.

Nation Programs

We seek to collaborate with governmental agencies, international organizations, researchers, healthcare professionals, communications experts, broadcasters, and community organizations. By sharing knowledge and experience, we hope to strengthen public education efforts and support those already working to protect girls.
